White Tiger is her first novel. Kylie Chan on writing White Tiger: "As an ordinary computer programmer brought up in a traditional Australian family, marrying a Chinese was an experience, opening my eyes to a whole different view of the world. We moved to Hong Kong and I became even more steeped in the culture and way of life which is so different from what we have here in Australia. When I left Hong Kong after living there for ten years, I raided the bookstore - finally I had access to a large selection of books in English. I devoured just about every fantasy title on the shelves until I ran out of things to read. Then I thought about what I would like to read and put it together. Romance, action, and the supernatural were close to the top of the list. I'd written many stories before, but those were mainly humorous descriptions of my many travels for my friends on the internet. I sat myself down and started to write a story incorporating what I knew of Chinese mythology and Taoist philosophy. My knowledge soon reached its limit and I was forced to hit the Internet and the local library to find out more. The results of my work and research are White Tiger and the two other upcoming books in the Dark Heavens series. I hope readers enjoy the interesting cultural and philosophical features of White Tiger as well as finding the story itself engrossing and entertaining."
