William Horwood
William Horwood was born in Oxford and grew up on the South Coast. His background was essentially a literary one as his father was Dean of St. Catherine’s, Oxford and his grandfather was principal of Regents park College and an old Testament scholar.
Having read Geography at Bristol University, Horwood began a career in journalism, specialising in advertising and marketing at the trade magazine Campaign. He then went on to join the Daily Mail where he editied Money Mail and Femail. In the mid-seventies he left to write full time. Duncton Wood was published in 1980 followed by Stonor Eagles and Kallagrigg, a novel that examined the way we deal with the handicapped. In 1988 came Duncton Quest, Duncton Found in 1989 and Duncton Tales in 1991. |
