About Sci-Fi
About Sci-Fi guide Julia Houston has a new Hailing Frequencies out which includes the rumour that Star Wars Ep III will be called Circle of the Force. There's also the usual Star Trek round-up and other news and goss from across the genre.

Angel interview
Last week we reported that in an upcoming episode of Angel Angel will be battling Angelus. Click here to view the entire article that news snippet is from on etonline.

Aint-it-cool
Harry Knowles (AICN) has seen the shooting script for The Hulk starring our own Eric Bana. Click here to check it out. While you're over at Aint-it-cool-news check out Moriarty's Superman scoop and click here to view new footage from X-Men 2.

BAFTAs
The BAFTAs were held on the 23rd and if you dig deep enough past the wonderful news that Nicole Kidman won a BAFTA for her role in The Hours (based on a great book by Michael Cunningham, incidentally!) you'll see that The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers picked up awards for Costume Design, Achievement in Special Visual Effects as well as the public vote for Orange Film of the Year. View the complete list of results at Bafta.com.

Harry Potter and the Fires of Scotland
Filming on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was delayed on the weekend due to a fire spanning more than 100 acres of heath land near the Glenfinnan viaduct. The crew were shooting scenes for the Hogwarts Express. Although the investigation has only just started locals are blaming the blaze on sparks from the steam engine used by the crew. Read the full article on BBC.co.uk. While there check out the latest casting news.

The Matrix Reloaded
SciFi Wire has Matrix snippets including Hugo Weaving quotes.

Lord of the Rings stuff
  • Salon.com has an interesting article up about the recognition, or lack thereof, of digital actors, CG and the Oscars. Should Andy Serkis' performance be recognised as acting in its own right? Methinks we have a poll question for next week...
  • Want to look like Legolas? Dreamweaverbraiding.com has instructions on how to achieve those braids!
  • TheOneRing.net has a transcript of a local NZ radio interview with Elijah Wood which is a little less conventional than you might expect.
  • DarkHorizons tells us that TheOneRing.net reports that they have 5 filmed death scenes for Saruman to choose from in the final edit. I couldn't find it on TheOneRing but while wandering around I did find the other news items for this snippet so all wasn't lost. ; ) If anyone tracks down the actual interview with Christopher Lee let me know and I'll include a link.

Angel battles inner demon
Sci-FiWire reports that in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Online that David Boreanaz says he'll be battling himself in an upcoming episode of Angel. An inner demon will be fought in the most literal sense.

Doc and Spidey2
Alfred Molina is rumoured to be playing Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 according to Coming Attractions. Molina's recent appearances include the role of Diego Rivera in Frida and Comte de Reynaud in Chocolat. Check out his stats on IMDB.com.

Indy finally on DVD?
Could it be true? We've been waiting for Indy on DVD for almost as long as we've been waiting for Star Wars (there's a pattern here, somewhere). Well there just MIGHT be movement! Head over to TheDigitalBits.com for a glance at some tentative cover art for the trilogy. Note: Paramount has NOT confirmed that these are the final covers but it's nice to see some evidence that they are on their way! The Digital Bits blurb about the image can be found here. Want to know when it will be here? The end of the year looks likely... TheRaider.Net has an Indy DVD page with lots of good info.

Movie News

  • SOLARIS, starring George Clooney in space (a sci-fi romance romp), is due to open really really soon (on the 27th of Feb). Keep your eyes open on Voyager - we'll have more on this film soon...
  • Affleck's DAREDEVIL may not be seen in Malaysia, according to The Star. The Malaysian film censorship board has banned the flick... 20th Century Fox have appealed. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you, Keris!
  • It may not be SF but there are enough Orlando Bloom (or at the very least Legolas) enthusiasts in the purple zone for this to rate a mention. Orlando, who plays Joe Byrne in the upcoming flick NED KELLY, has an interview up on the film's official website.
  • LatinoReview are "99% certain" that Josh Hartnett will be playing Superman... According to SciFiWire The Hollywood Reporter agrees that he's the top contender.
  • TROY, the movie based on Homer's The Iliad is about to start filming. According to Coming Attractions the line-up includes Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. Check out IGNFilmforce for more info.
  • David Cronenberg, director of eXistenZ, will be directing a new SF flick in the near future. According to SciFiWire actors Nicholas Cage and Ralph Fiennes are both interested in being involved in the PAINKILLERS project.
  • Head over to scifitalk.com to check out the casts' take on the latest Star Trek movie, NEMESIS. Mini interviews include Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner and Tom Hardy.

Star Trek and the Bard
Have you ever considered how often Shakespeare comes up in Star Trek? No? Well Julia Houston, the Guide for scifi on about.com, has... Click here to view the article.

Pics from Prisoner of Azkaban

Filming for the third Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is underway at the moment in London. The film, naturally, features a very impressive looking version of The Knight Bus. Check out this article by Duncan Larcome at The Sun Online (complete with a few pics).

Oscar nominations announced

This years' Oscar nominations are out. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers received six nominations including Best Picture. Achievement in Visual Effects is shaping up to be a conflicting award for purple zoners with three of our favourite movies of the year nominated: Two Towers goes head to head with Spider-Man and Attack of the Clones for that honour. Click here to view the complete list.

The Two Towers on DVD

It may not be that long since it was released in cinemas but information is already out on the DVD release of The Two Towers. According to TheOneRing.Net the initial theatrical release will be available in the UK as early as the end of June, with the extended edition out towards the end of the year. From their description of the 4 disc release this is definitely the one for fans of the films! While you're wasting time over at TheOneRing.Net be sure to browse through the scrapbook - well worth some time.

Angel and Buffy to end, Faith to begin?

Friends of SciFi reports that Alyson Hannigan (Willow) will be appearing in Angel later this series as a crossover. Hang on, you're saying, aren't they on different networks which is why we don't HAVE crossovers anymore? Exactly. According to FSF the cooperation is due to a possible ending of both shows. SciFiWire reports that, if Buffy is to end, then Angel would appear in the series finale. Faith, meanwhile, may get her own spin-off show according to the BBC's Buffy news site...

More superhero news

In other superhero news scifiwire reports that the script is in for Spidey2 and The Daily Telegraph reports that Guy Pearce is in the running for the role of Bruce Wayne in the next Batman movie.

Indy4

To say that there are lots of rumours about Indy4 is an understatement. The latest is the unconfirmed report on IGN Filmforce that filming could start as early as this summer (so in about 3 or 4 months time). Rumour has it that the script still isn't finished but we're definitely getting closer. Keep an eye on TheRaider.net and Indyfan.com for the latest news.
