MUSIC

My 13 year old younger son Alex listens to, plays and writes music. His tastes centre around techno and house music, but he listens to a wide variety of musical styles. He plays the drums, having learned them for three years. Alex has written about 50 songs over the last two years.

After reading Across the Face of the World, he felt inspired to write some accompanying music. Each piece was based around a particular incident or character in the story.

Alex used MTV Music Generator 2 and Music 3000, both on the Playstation II. While not as powerful as professional music editing suites, these programs have taught Alex many of the basics of musical composition. They also have a royalty-free licence allowing him to distribute his mp3’s

Those of you who know these programs will hear their distinctive sound in Alex’s compositions. These tunes contain a mixture of library riffs and riffs of Alex’s own creation.

Alex and I want you to remember a few things:

• Music is the most subjective thing we have in life.
• Alex is 13 years old, so don’t expect professional quality.
• He has his own style. These tunes are not like a soundtrack to a movie. Some may surprise you!
• He does not own a recording studio or professional editing software.
• But Alex does have talent and passion. We hope you enjoy these tunes!
